National Geographic Russia Photo School With Sergei Gorshkov
The National Geographic Russia Photo School is continuing its joint work with the Photoproject company. On Jan. 23, Sergei Gorshkov gave a master class entitled “The Art of Shooting Wildlife.”
Sergei Gorshkov is a regular contributor to National Geographic Russia and a renowned wildlife photographer. Gorshkov won the Golden Turtle Award in 2006 as the best Russian wildlife photographer, and continues to serve on the jury for that prize. In 2007, Gorshkov won the international Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. He has published two albums of original work, “Bears” and “Kamchatka.” His photographs are often featured in photo exhibits in both Russia and abroad.
At the master class Sergei Gorshkov told attendees how to prepare for a safari (what to start with, choosing a guide and packing your backpack), working “in the field,” and what tasks there are to do after the shoot. During his presentation, Gorshkov touched on a number of topics: Nature’s “schedule,” extreme weather conditions, coping with glare, animals of prey and their victims, the degree of risk involved, safety measures, criteria for evaluating a shoot, the press, photo competitions and festivals and many others.
