National Geographic Russia at Golden Turtle Exhibition

The opening of the Golden Turtle photo exhibition was held on March 6 at the New Manezh State Exhibition Hall, and the results were announced in the contest for the title of Best Wilderness Photographer. As part of the competition, National Geographic Russia magazine established the “Photographic Narrative” award. Photographers were invited to submit a series of photographs depicting a single subject or conveying a single theme.

At the exhibition’s opening, National Geographic Russia editor-in-chief Andrei Dubrovsky presented gifts to the “Photo Narrative” contest winner Alexander Tulin. The winning photographer was also given the opportunity to publish his work in the magazine.

“National Geographic Russia” served as the informational partner to the Golden Turtle competition that was conducted throughout 2008. The contest was established to find the best wilderness photographer. Jury members included the chief artist for National Geographic Russia, Alevtina Sukhorukova, winner of the Golden Turtle award for 2007 and regular contributing author to National Geographic Russia Sergei Gorshkov, the chief photographer for the Associated Press Russia as well as other professional photographers. More than 17,000 photos were selected in the first round of the contest, and only 146 made it to the final round.

The photo exhibition will run until March 22 at the New Manezh in Moscow.
