The Moscow Times in Museum of Personal Collections

The Moscow Times is acting as the partner to the exhibition titled, "Masterpieces of Russian Icon Painting of the 14th to 16th Centuries." The exhibition, which displays works gathered from personal collections, marks the 100-year anniversary of the opening that first recognized Russian icons as works of art, and that drew attention to the collectors of icons.

The exhibition will be on display at the Museum of Personal Collections in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Volkhonka Street 12, Moscow) from February 18 through April 19, 2009. The exhibit includes more than 100 outstanding works of art drawn from 23 private collections and spans primarily the 15th and 16th centuries. The icons come from the most far-flung regions of Russia -- Moscow, Yaroslavl, Pskov, Tver, Vologda, Novgorod, Onezhsk, Rostov-Suzdalsk and Arkhangelsk. Each icon has its own story and it own beauty. Most of the icons on display will be seen by the public for the first time.

Russian icons are famous the world over, and that is why the exhibition will be of special interest to the Moscow expat community and to people visiting the capital, who will be able to view the selected works of art at the Pushkin Museum.

The Moscow Times and the International Herald Tribune will conduct a subscription and sales drive in conjunction with the exhibition.
