Harper’s Bazaar Invites Public to Erte Exhibition

Harper’s Bazaar magazine is supporting the first-ever exhibition in Russia of drawings by Erte, which opened on June 21 at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

Erte is a painter, graphic artist, stage designer and fashion designer from the Art Deco era. In 1915, he signed a contract with the U.S. edition of Harper’s Bazaar and produced covers for every issue of the publication until 1935.

The Hermitage exhibition will include Erte works from the private collection of Michael Estorick, which includes watercolors and gouache, pen drawings, prints and sculptures. Among them are works produced for Parisian fashion houses prior to World War I, including drawings of costumes for U.S. and French fashion magazines, as well as covers made for Harper’s Bazaar.

The exhibition runs until September 18.
