Popular Mechanics Announces New Contest
The April issue of Popular Mechanics is the first magazine with pages that contain not only words, but also sounds, recorded in the form of special images known as sonograms that are recognizable by the black strips above and below the “sound graphic.” To listen to them, just download the free “Popular Mechanics. Sound” application from the App Store or Google Play.
Phonopaper technology makes it possible to not only listen to sonograms printed on the magazine’s pages, but also to create them using the special stencil included in its April issue. Popular Mechanics and Yamaha Music invite readers to try graphic composition, and is holding a contest.
To take part, readers must:
Buy the April issue of the magazine;
Download the free “Popular Mechanics. Sound” app to a mobile device;
Create a sound graphic of any type using the stencil included on page 63 of the April issue;
Launch the app and aim the mobile device’s camera at the graphic to convert the image to sound;
Save the graphic image as an audio file;
Post the recording to social networks with the hashtag #ПопмехPhonoPaper (#PopmechPhonoPaper).
The contest will run from March 24 to April 21. Popular Mechanics will award prizes to the 20 graphic composers whose works garner the highest number of votes on social networks. The Grand Prize winner will receive a one-year subscription to the magazine and a Yamaha TSX-112 Red music center.
