Esquire Celebrated Five-Year Anniversary

Esquire celebrated the five-year anniversary of the magazine’s Russian edition and the release of its “Rules of Life” book by throwing a party on August 5 at the Strelka.

Despite the incredible Moscow heat and unusually smoky air, the day of the party turned out to be very sunny and clear. Many guests gathered in the open area of the Strelka Institute of Media, Architecture and Design to congratulate their favorite magazine with the release of the book “Rules of Life.”

The illustrated book “Rules of Life” was released on August 10 in honor of the five-year anniversary of the Russian edition of Esquire and with the support of general partner Dewar’s whiskey. The volume includes the 100 best interviews published in the column by the same name – interviews with such people as Jack Nicholson, Boris Akunin, George Clooney, Salman Rushdie, Dustin Hoffman, Jim Jarmusch, Quentin Tarantino and Sergei Yursky.

Throughout the evening, guests were able to obtain, at a special price, presentation copies of the “Rules of Life” book that had been signed by writers Boris Akunin and Eduard Liminov and by film director Sergei Bodrov. Money earned from the sales was donated to the Give the Gift of Life charitable foundation.

The main event of the program was a concert by the Icelandic group GusGus. As the evening ended, guests could enjoy not only reading the “Rules of Life” book – but having a taste of it. Caffeine confectioners presented an unusual gift: a huge, delicious cake topped with a sugar coating that formed a replica of the book. Esquire magazine Editor-in-Chief Filipp Bakhtin did the honors and cut the cake.
