National Geographic Russia in June

Tunnels Under Hawaii – For centuries, molten rock from volcanic eruptions in the Hawaiian islands have pierced underground passages, creating a gigantic network of lava caves. The largest of those studied thus far is 64 kilometers in length. It is also the deepest, descending as much as 1,100 meters from end to end.

The Find of the Millennium – In the Millennium Mine in Canada, an excavator discovered a perfectly preserved dinosaur fossil. After arriving to view it, scientists immediately realized that it was a new member of the Nodosaurida family of dinosaurs. The body of this giant herbivorous lizard from the Cretaceous period was covered with a thorny armor that apparently protected it from predators.

Heathland – The fabulously beautiful heathlands in Scotland are the subject of endless disputes over how to preserve this national treasure, its ownership, and how to make the best use of it.
