National Geographic Russia Named ‘Magazine of the Year’
Russian Entertainment Awards 2011 named National Geographic Russia “Magazine of the Year.” The Vechernyaya Moskva newspaper announced the winners of the fifth annual national awards in the fields of entertainment and leisure based on nationwide electronic voting.
The votes were cast on the official Russian Entertainment Awards website from Dec. 1 to March 1. Most of the voting audience was men and women (38 percent / 62 percent) between the ages of 25 and 40.
The all-Russia electronic vote was held in 12 categories: Magazine of the Year, Television Channel of the Year, Radio Station of the Year, Website of the Year, Museum of the Year, Drama Theater of the Year, Movie Theater of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, Nightclub of the Year, Circus Arena of the Year, Concert Hall of the Year and Entertainment Complex of the Year. In addition, non-competitive awards for Event of the Year, Project of the Year, Label of the Year and a special award for Person of the Year were determined by the RE Awards directorate and supervisory board headed by director and producer Yury Grymov.
This is the second consecutive year that National Geographic Russia has won the award, beating out the Vokrug Sveta (Around the World) magazine, which had received the honor three times from 2007 to 2009. Other winners included the Dozhd (Rain) television channel, the Serebryany Dozhd (Silver Rain) radio station, the VKontakte social network, KFC fast food restaurants, the large planetarium in Moscow and others. The reopening of the historical Bolshoi Theater was named Event of the Year. The 4D Alpha Show directed by David Atkins and presented on City Day in Moscow was named The Most Significant Project of 2011. Europa Plus radio station took the honors for Label of the Year. Russian film director, actor and screenwriter Andrei Zvyagintsev was awarded the honorary title of Person of the Year for popularizing the Russian cinema abroad and singer Edyta Piecha was named a Legend.
