Alpina Business Books on Georgia

The book division of Alpina Business Books/United Press has released “Why Has Georgia Succeeded?” by economist Larissa Burakova.

Is it true that it is possible in Georgia to obtain a driver’s license and register a company in under 30 minutes? Why hasn’t the elimination of many regulatory agencies and a reduction in the number of required construction permits not led to poor quality buildings or incidences of food poisoning? Where have all the thieving officials disappeared for which Georgia has been famous since Soviet times? How has Georgia managed to eliminate long lines, bureaucracy and corruption in state institutions?

Unfortunately, most Russians have little idea of what is happening in this former sister republic – with which relations have always been strained. This stems not only from the current relationship between the two countries, but also from the lack of reliable information on present-day Georgia. Russian economist Larissa Burakova has visited Georgia on numerous occasions and has met with the authors of reform as well as their opponents.
