Men’s Health Adventure Sailing School

From August 7 to 14, a group of eight readers was the second to receive instruction at the Men’s Health Adventure sailing school in Anapa. For six days, the participants learned the basics of sailing and practiced their skills on the 42-foot racing yacht St. Anna.

Acting head coach of the All-Russia Sailing Federation Sergei Dzhienbayev, Captain Gennady Mezhakovym and sailor Vanya Kadetov took the challenge seriously. The result was that participants were able to independently sail from the Bolshoy Utrish yacht club in Anapa to Gelendzhik. Every team member learned how to fill and pay out the mainsail, jib and spinnaker, steer the boat at 10 knots, and how to moor the boats and tie sea knots. Participants sailed a total of approximately 110 nautical miles. They hailed from different Russian cities, and one of them rode a motorcycle from Yekaterinburg to Anapa.

The September issue of Men’s Health will include an article about the adventures of the first group. The third session of the sailing school will be held from September 18 to 25, also at Anapa. The price of 28,000 rubles ($930) includes single-room accommodation in Anapa, transfers to and from the yacht club, breakfasts, instruction on theory and practical application of those skills. Tatiana Aksenova (t.aksenova@imedia.ru) serves as the sailing school coordinator.

During the same dates in Anapa, Men’s Health will hold the Black Sea Cup by Men’s Health, a major windsurfing and kite boarding competition.
