Travels with The Moscow Times

The Moscow Times will publish its first annual travel guide titled “The Moscow Times Travel Guide” in April. The project was supported by the Trust National Bank.

It is no accident that Moscow is called the heart of Russia. There are a huge number of interesting cultural and historical monuments both inside and surrounding the capital. The outlying regions of Moscow contain many places with a unique energy, where great writers and artists plied their craft. A little further out, in the cities of the Golden Ring, you can truly travel through time because this is where relics of ancient Orthodox churches and monasteries are kept. They majestically cast their spiritual energy over the region just as they have for the last 100 years – and in some cases, for the last 500 years. The ponderous jangling bells ring out the somber rhythms of history that gave rise to the Russian state. On the fields where great battles were fought, you can try on the 20-kilogram armor Russian warriors once wore and pull the string of a real Tatar bow. Beyond the city limits of one of the largest mega cities in the world, the pristine beauty of the mid-Russian landscape extends to the horizon and ultra-pure cold water gurgles out of underground springs, flowing through dense forests where elk and bison roam free.

The first edition of The Moscow Times Travel Guide selected 12 different routes suitable as weekend outings for family or friends. In future editions, The Moscow Times will expand the geography of the routes and make them more enjoyable and longer. The guide is published in two languages - Russian and English.

The best way to get away from the daily grind, to forget about the hustle and bustle of the mad metropolis, is to go on an exciting journey – and in some places, to even travel through time. Just browse through The Moscow Times’ guidebook, select a route at random and boldly hit the road. Not only will you will see lots of new and interesting things: returning from a journey picked from The Moscow Times Travel Guide, you will be able to say with confidence, “Yes, I know Russia better now!”
