Create Yourself in October

In October, The Moscow Times newspaper held several events for children participating in the Create Yourself charitable program.

The Moscow Times and the Moscow House of Photography, with support from VTB Capital, organized an exhibition of photographs by children participating in the Create Yourself program that was held in the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall from October 13 to 19. The Feppepo Russia company acted as the “sweet” partner to the event by presenting all of the young photographers with chocolates at the exhibition opening on October 12. The exposition presented the best photographs taken by children during 2009. The event attracted a large number of visitors and representatives of popular mass media outlets.

On September 23 and 27, and on October 18, The Moscow Times partnered with Half-a-Teaspoon and restaurant Dymov Number 1 to organize a culinary master class for children from the Downside Up charitable fund and the Otradnoe Social Rehabilitation Center. The culinary lessons were a big hit with the kids, who enthusiastically tried to prepare something interesting and tasty with their own hands. A series of culinary master classes for children from Otradnoe began on October 18. A special course was prepared for those children that included basic information about how to prepare everyday foods in the kitchen for themselves and their families.

With support from the Union of Naturalist Photographers, a master class was organized for children who are wards of the Ramenki municipality and who suffer from cerebral palsy. Under the tutelage of photographic artist Andriana Kolotilina, the children learned how to use a camera and shot photographs on the theme of “autumn.”

On October 18, the newspaper conducted an excursion through the exhibition titled “Heroes of our Times,” an artistic master class and a concert by international laureates of a Rotary Club contest that was held in the Museion Center for the Aesthetic Education of Children and Youth in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. The children took active part in a discussion of the pictures on display in the hall and then drew their renderings of the heroes of our times.

Between September 10 and October 22, readers of The Moscow Times contributed 258,504 rubles to children who are wards of the Create Yourself program. And starting from March 23, cumulative contributions total 1,783,067 rubles.

More information about the children can be found at the web site www.sotvorisebya.ru under the headings “Help the Children” and “Aid Given.”
