Vedomosti: Results of Corporate Charity Survey

As part of the Fifth Vedomosti Newspaper "Charity in Russia" conference, a ceremony was held on March 2 presenting an award for the most effective corporate charity project in Russia.

First place went to Rusal, second place was awarded jointly to Transaero Airlines and The Seventh Continent. Uralsib Bank took both third place. Renova won a special award for the most innovative and original program. UniCredit Bank also received an award for involving their employees in charity.

The project first began tracking corporate charity on June 31, 2008, with 40 companies participating. Among them were flagships of Russian business such as Lukoil, RUSAL, SeverStal, Renova, Mirax Group, and AFK System as well as Russian branches of foreign companies such as Mercedes-Benz Russia, Raiffeisen, Kraft Foods Russia and British American Tobacco Russia.

The goal of the corporate Charity in Russia campaign is to inform the public of the actual sums Russian companies spend on charities and promote discussion of the effectiveness of those funds on the charitable projects themselves.

Auditing and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers developed the research methodology especially for Vedomosti newspaper. It consists of two stages. The first evaluates companies' financial support of charities, and the second analyzes the quality of the charitable programs themselves.

Representatives of the leading charitable foundations Podari Zhizn (Give Life), Forum Donorov (Donors Forum) and Liniya Zhizni (Lifeline) served as expert speakers.

On March 3, 2009 Vedomosti newspaper published the newspaper insert "Charity" containing the results of the research and an overview of philanthropy in both Russia and overseas.

Vedomosti plans to continue developing its rankings and analyses on themes of interest to the public and the business community.
