Cosmopolitan Supports “Page 17” Literary Project

Cosmopolitan magazine is taking part in the “Page 17” project organized by AST publishers and Elena Shubina Editorial Services. As part of the project, a series of public readings will be held from May to October 2016. Cosmopolitan magazine editor-in-chief Polina Sokhranova is also taking part, and will give a public reading on June 9.

Set in the metropolis, Page 17 offers a new perspective on modern Russian literature. One theory suggests that most people give up reading a book on the 17th page. But what if the most interesting part begins right at that point? From May to October, people from a wide range of fields will acquaint listeners with iconic works of contemporary Russian literature, starting from the 17th page. The readings will be held at venues not directly related to literature: parks and movie theaters, office building rooftops and balconies, shopping malls, boutiques and drama theaters.

At the sessions, after hearing a reading of selected passages listeners will vote on whether the book is worth finishing, or if their free time is better spent in other ways. Everyone is welcome to take part in this wide-ranging experiment. Registration is required.
