Popular Lectures in April
This month, lectures presented by Popular Mechanics magazine will examine the placebo effect, the Higgs boson and dream visions. The lectures will be held in the 35MM movie theater at 47 Ulitsa Pokrovka in Moscow.
On April 2 at 7:30 p.m., psychotherapist Dr. Andrei Strelchenko will explain how the placebo effect works and answer questions such as: Is it true that brightly colored and larger pills are more effective? Are homeopathic drugs real medicine or placebos? Is the practice of “coding" alcoholics really just a show?
On April 9 at 7:30 p.m., theoretical physicist Valery Rubakov will present the lecture, “The Higgs boson has been discovered: What’s next?" Visitors will learn what else remains to be discovered about the particles, what’s happening now at the Large Hadron Collider, and whether humanity has really discovered the basic principles of how matter was created and gained an understanding of the mechanisms of the universe.
On April 23 at 7:30 p.m., sleep researcher Yelena Korabelnikova will tell listeners why people dream and answer such questions as: Why is it that we often cannot remember our dreams? Can we dream without actually seeing anything? What determines the content of our dreams? Where do nightmares come from, and is it true that dreams we see on Thursday nights are more likely to come true?
