Grazia Young Designers Contest
Grazia magazine announces the launch of its Young Designers contest. This year it was decided to change the format of the task: Designers must create an associative collage. Participants are invited to create a '60s-style outfit with a skirt or short trousers and a floor-length velvet dress. Per tradition, 10 finalists will be selected to present their models during the Grazia showing at Volvo Fashion Week in Moscow.
The contest also includes the special category "Inspired by St. Petersburg," for which five finalists will present their work at the Aurora Fashion Week Russia held in St. Petersburg.
Not only novice designers will have the opportunity to prove themselves: This year Grazia has expanded the scope of the contest to include hair stylists and visagistes. Hair stylists are asked to create two hairdos, both of which should reflect the collage theme and complement the outfits created by the designers. The visagistes must meet analogous requirements.
Hair stylists and visagistes placing in the top three will receive prizes from the magazine's business partners and the chance to go backstage at the Grazia showing at Volvo Fashion Week in Moscow, observe the professionals at work and even gain some hands-on experience.
Grazia has a number of surprises in store for all the finalists: training as well as internships and a chance to work with famous brands.
As part of the contest, famous Russian designers will hold a workshop at which they will share their experiences and talk about their first steps in the fashion industry. Grazia will also invite recognized experts in the world of fashion to talk about the styles and trends that formed the basis of the creative task of this year's competition and to highlight the main features of these styles.
Beauty is the theme of a separate event, Grazia Beautiful Bachelorette, in which experienced stylists and visagistes will conduct a workshop on makeup and hair styling with celebrities participating as well. The instructors will also explain how to create a personal image that properly complements the outfits created by designers.
Submissions will be accepted from June 5 to Sept. 4, 2012, at konkursgrazia@imedia.ru. Letters should include the following words in the subject line: "designer," "hairstyle" or "makeup," depending on the category of the submission. The contest results will be announced in September.
